November 2007 Archives
Thanksgiving was pretty good this year. I went to San Jose to visit some of my family. I got to meet a friend of mine in Oakland and wanted to make a trip to San Francisco to visit some more of my college friends, but I was too busy playing Rock Band to venture very far from my cousin's place. I did get to see the Sharks play, but next time I'll get off my ass and chase some tail. However, I confident that after a few more weeks with this game, I could have been just as much of a rock star poseur as Evil Dick.
I've included some pictures from my visit in the extended entry for those of you interested. Warning - they are kind of boring since there wasn't too much drunken mayhem going on, unless you count the flaming Dr. Peppers and Wii tennis (not included).
You know what I'm talking about - the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Tyra Banks is no longer part of the show, but Heidi Klum will be rocking it, as will the preposterously hot Adriana Lima, and the stunning newcomer Selita Ebanks. I don't hang out on YouTube often, but after seeing that the good people at Victoria's Secret have been posting various clips of the fashion, I have been checking back for new stuff every day. After the NFL and Heroes, this is why I wanted to get HD.

This morning, on the way to work, I passed by a BMW with the license plate "JTT". I thought for sure I was driving along the side of Jonathan Taylor Thomas, erstwhile star of Home Improvement. Alas, as I drove by, it appeared who ever driving the BMW had gone through puberty, so it wasn't JTT, but perhaps some impostor trying to fool all of the starry-eyed commuters on their ride to work.
As part of my travails at Gridskipper.com, I have added a few more posts. Two articles on where to find good macaroni and cheese, and another article on frequent flyer dining on the West Side. I'll have an auto show post up later this week.
It may be shallow, but I try to avoid the homeless at all costs. Part of it is because I don't feel like giving them cash is really going to make a huge difference in their lives, but mostly because of the smell. While killing a little time this morning (I enjoyed the AT&T WiFi at Coffee Bean for a few hours, but realized Borders had better seating and more convenient access to a power outlet), a homeless woman sat next to me. Her shirt was a little more transparent than it needed to be (although the large guy from Australia sitting across from her doesn't seem to mind that there is no bra hiding her nipples) but she didn't smell any more than the average cab driver. She got some books out and decided to take some notes from them, giggling as she got to a particularly humurous portion. And what made her laugh so much? Ancient Egypt and The Complete Idiot's Guide to The Bible. I guess it's true what they say: 1st Corinthians really brings down the house.
WiFi is awesome when you can get a signal, but sometimes when you are away from home, a signal is very hard to find. While waiting to get my car fixed today, I went to a Coffee Bean because I heard there was AT&T WiFi at these locations for free as long as you had AT&T broadband, which I do. Actually, I was going to go the Starbuck across the street when I noticed a well-proportioned blonde walk in, but I resisted. After grabbing a large Colomian Dark Roast and a blueberry scone, I sat down at a table and connected in less than 30 second, which has to be a new record. I didn't have to go through a lot of hoops and didn't have to sign up for any other service. I got a lot of work done, did a little people watching, and I'll gladly seek out a Coffee Bean whenever I need a connection, even if I'm really just on a search for a nice set of gams.
When I was still writing for TVgasm, I think my favorite show to recap was Heroes. Hiro is one of my favorite characters, but he has been sucking a little bit this year since he decided to stay in 19th century Japan. I like that he gets to meet his hero, but I feel his love story is forced, and the time paradoxes the writers must deal with are starting to really weigh on the rest of show. And now with an alternate-ending paradox to go along with the time travel, things are going to start to get crazy. The writers are on strike, but I hope that they spend some of that time in the picket line thinking about how to make things a little more consistent. Still love the show though.
