It's Going to Be A Long Summer

Count me in as one of the people who is with the "thumbs down" crowd for Pirates of the Caribbean. I saw the second movie first, was completely confused, and then saw the first movie. It made a little more sense, but overall I wasn't that impressed. I think we are all entitled to have a difference of opinion on movies, and God knows I like a lot of bad movies people can't stand, but this whole pirates thing is annoying. I actually have a problem with most of the people who enjoy this movie, but as with any franchise, there are always a few crazies (I am looking at you wizard hat-wearing freaks) that ruin it for the mostly sane masses who just want to see Johnny Depp vamp it up. Therefore, I make it my mission to kick at least one Jack Sparrow imitator in the nuts (or purple nurple if it is a woman) by the end of this summer.

Ahem. IIII like this franchise, even if the second installment wasn't so wonderful. Nevertheless, people who dress up like pirates are retarded. In fact, people who dress up like anything for a movie are retarded. It's an immutable point.

I'm with the Big Unit on this one. Sort of. I slept through the first movie about 5 times. Then I slept through part 2 once. Finally caught that one, and meh, it was cool. But I didn't start wearing a fucking eye patch and pegleg over it.

FINALLY, someone who agrees with me. Pirates really are not that cool. I tried arguing this point and my friend came back with something about how it was an intriguing time in history...yeah, because Disney does a great job recapturing historical events. Dumbass. Anyway, I am happy to see you agree.

yee-aaaarrrr. I really liked the first one (Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, the guy from Couplings, what's not to like?). Second one was just OK, but I'll be going to see the third. I save dressing up like movie characters for Halloween (which is geeky enough as it is).

There are different rules for Halloween. Some costumes might show a little more obsession, but that's what we created the Holiday for. Making fun of costumes on Halloween would be like making fun of beer on St. Patrick's Day or cervesas on Cinco de Mayo.

The dude on the right kinda looks like Andygasm ...

OMR, you're right HB.

Whatever happened to that guy?

I think I'm one of those people you are talking about. Went to Pirates 2 at the midnight show - my nephew was dressed up and I had on a pirate t-shirt. We took photos of and with all the fake Johnnie Depps and Wenches. We plan to repeat that this year for P3.

My honey is a big pirates fan too - so we were a Pirate and a Wench for halloween one year - and I love that when he is drunk he sounds JUST like Jack Sparrow with his English Accent. "I must say you Amerrrrricerns make a ratha fine fine whiskey!"

Depending on how old the nephew is, I don't see a problem with this. A pirate T-shirt is OK. As long as you don't dress up as a wench and wait 12 hours in line, you are OK by me.

Word. I saw the first 20 mins of the first one and thought it was horrible. Thankfully my friends turned it off. I don't get it.

Being active in the Disney community, there are many full grown adults who make and wear elaborate Pirates costumes. Yeah, I don't quite get it.

however I am looking forward to that Pirates reality show.

Any adult who wears any costume for any thing other than a costume party - and only really cool costume parties at that - has serious issues.

And romanticizing pirates is weird, you're right. Pirates totally suck. (and the 2nd movie made 0 sense to me, but Keira Knightley is such a pleasure to gaze upon, I'll keep watching.)
