Child of the Corn(huskers)
You know, I understand why people hate the Yankees so much. For the last ten years, they have always been at the top, and people love an underdog. Although they follow the rules, they have been seen as a team that can only buy success. This year, the story has changed a little bit, thanks to some hard work by Brian Cashman. The Yankees are trusting in their scouts and their farm system and not just hired guns. Of course, we would be nowhere without Alex Rodriguez, but the most exciting story since the All-Star break has been the emergence of Joba Chamberlain.
Joba Chamberlain has great stuff, and he has climbed from single-A ball to the majors in just one year. And although he will probably be a hated Yankee in no time, he does have a great background story. Sometimes we get so cynical about athletes and the millions that they make, but listening to a story like Joba's reminds you of all the hard work of people we never get to hear of that make the lives of some of these athletes possible.
